This unit is operated under supervision of nursing office and operates each day from 7:30 to 14:00. This unit is active during evening and night shifts through phone consultation. Its activities include:
- Development of action plan under supervision of infection control committee
- Preparation of audit checklists for wards, filling of checklists, survey of the results of implementation of necessary interventions;
- Planning for rounds in various Wards and presenting the round reports to hospital management;
- Creation of medical file, vaccination and conducting periodic tests for employees;
- Investigating the educational needs of staff members in relation to infection control, risk management, safety, etc.
- Planning for employee training, screening and retraining if necessary
- Coordination with various wards for reporting infection cases in the hospital, careful investigation of statistical accuracy, presenting reports after filling of forms and review of patient files, patient condition and lab reports and using physicians’ opinions for controlling infections within the hospital;
- Preparation of correction methods, guidelines, and processes under supervision of head of infection control committee;
- Planning for use of proper disinfectants for hands, tools and surfaces and coordination for purchase and distribution of these materials in various wards;
- Supervising the service, laundry, and nutrition performance in regards to following of safety tips related to infection control;
- Monitoring of CSSD and operation rooms in regards to infection control;
- Formation of infection control committee, creation of meeting minutes and implementation of infection control committee’s resolutions;
- Following up on injuries and damages caused by needles and other sharp objects and preparation of monthly reports;
- Coordination for sending of HIV test samples, receiving of the results and delivering the results to various wards;
- Acquisition of medications unavailable in the pharmacy and investigating them in regards to shortages and expiration dates. Drugs such as flu shots, Zidovudine, etc. are acquisitioned through the management;
- Reporting epidemic cases to infection control committee and deputy of health;
- Preparation of monthly written reports based on existing formats for deputy of health and treatment;
- Participation in various meetings and seminars;
- Coordination for transfer of test samples for influenza, CCHG, and similar conditions
- Preparation of annual performance reports;
- Holding monthly infection control committee meetings in the hospital and implementation of any resolutions;
- Participation in research projects
